Not much new in this letter from Rod Beckstrom to the US senate.
A repeat that the gTLD program is going smooth and all concerns willbe dealt with.

Mentioned once more is the following (RAA)

    • Whois verification requirement (seems tobe on top of the list)
    • Requiring registrars to maintain points of contact for reporting abuse (i assume most registrars have this already)
    • New reseller obligations
    • Heightened obligations relating to privacy/proxy service (sounds like these guys need improve their service)
    • Increased compliance mechanisms (currently this couldbe alot better).

Not the first time Rod Beckstrom wrote this. Earlier this year he wrote the samething but now with some extra information.

The PDF can be viewed here and includes the original letter to the NTIA.

How ICANN is gonna pull off the WHOIS verification is going to be very intresting.
Personally when i look back how ICM registry handled the verification system for the sponsored community, i thought it was not bad at all.
Add a upload function for a passport/identity papers. Implement the callback function and the pin verification and your one step further.
Just one however. Even though the above sounds like a simple smeghead idea, the implications are far reaching and i can imagine free speech advocates will have a field day tearing it apart ;)
So the point is, WHOIS verification.. that's gonna be very very intresting.....

Below ANA's response to ICANN re gTLD's.
